Talara Waler Horse Stud is situated in the beautiful Lockyer Valley, at Upper Tenthill, South of Gatton and 100 km West of Brisbane. Talara has the hills to build strong legs and to develop powerful hind quarters typical of the Waler, and flats to enhance the long steady gait that makes for a good ride. On Talara we grow our own lucerne and with the improved pasture and natural grasses, we have the factors which assure us that the Waler horses we breed have the finest start to their early development.

Talara is a family-owned stud where all the family has their contribution to the development of these amazing Australian horses. The stud is owned by Grantley and Velda Chaplin both with generations of living with horses in their blood. Talara is proud of its Walers that are renowned for their amazing temperaments, versatility, good bone, and conformation.

We at Talara have put just as much into choosing our brood mares as we have into the selection of our beautiful stallions. Our breeding stock has been carefully chosen from properties where Walers were bred for the remount trade and have kept the line to this day. Our mares come from the Northern Territory, Tasmania, South Australia, Queensland and the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. This allows us a wide gene pool in which to breed our progeny. We have also sorght a small number of thoroughbred mares with impeccable blood lines to join with our Waler stallions to produce quality Waler crosses for the Waler/Thoroughbred market.

Talara Walers have been sold to satisfied customers in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. The versatility of the breed lends itself to many equine pursuits such as eventing, endurance, dressage, camp drafting, stock work, polo, polocrosse, pleasure riding and pony club and the like.
